BIOGRAPHY

Mengxue Tan grows up in Wuhan, China, and currently based in New York. She started to play the piano and Guzheng at the age of five. Mengxue finished her bachelor’s degree in Wuhan Conservatory of Music in 2021, majored in Composition. She has earned her Master's Degree in Screen Scoring from New York University in 2023.
Mengxue Tan is an award-winning composer. Her original score for documentary JOURNEY was nominated for LA Indie short fest's BEST ORIGINAL SCORE. In 2023, the documentary DUET she co-scored, was the winner of 2023 Student Academy Awards. She has collaborated on multiple projects with filmmakers from NYU Tisch, Columbia University, SVA and FIT. Mengxue is also a recipient of the 2023 ASCAP Columbia University Film Scoring Workshop. In 2022, she won the Honorable Mention of Krakow FMF-YoungTalentAward Competition as well as the winner of the 2022 NYU Steinhardt Film Score Composition Competition. During her years in Wuhan Conservatory of Music, she studied the second major in Recording Art, and she tried to combine electronic elements in her music works. Her electronic music “Dialogue with the Future” and “Moonlit Shadow” both selected for 2018 and 2020 International Computer Music Conference (ICMC). Furthermore, she wrote the original score for the film “Life Ticket” which was selected by MIAMI GOLDEN LIGHTHOUSE FILM FESTIVAL. Also, Mengxue wrote the original score for the short film "Found You" which won the Los Angeles Independent Shorts Award Winner.
